Elle & Vire

The triumph of Normandy cream: 70 years of Elle & Vire

The story of Elle & Vire began in 1945, when Auguste Grandin, a French farmer and mayor, founded the butter-producing agricultural cooperative in Condé-sur-Vire, Normandy. The cooperative initially produced butter, but from 1948 it also processed cream to produce pasteurised butter, which enabled the products to be distributed nationwide. By 1962, the merger of several cooperatives created the Union Laitière Normande (ULN), which by 1975 had become France's largest milk exporter. In 1992, ULN was taken over by Bongrain SA and ELVIR was created, a company known worldwide for its premium quality creams, butters and other dairy products under the Elle & Vire brand. Today, Elle & Vire dairy products are the favourite of top gastronomy professionals and the most exported French cream in the world.
